Nähanleitung Pullover Ikarus

Sewing instructions for the Icarus sweater

Ikarus is a basic top with a slim fit and round neckline. The dividing seams in the front allow you to play with colors and materials and use up your leftover fabric. Of course, the dividing seams can also be folded together to create a classic sweater , depending on your preference.

Length in the middle back = 60 – 65 cm

→ To the “Icarus” pattern

Icarus was sewn from a sweat in this tutorial.

We recommend jersey and for the front part you can mix it with e.g. artificial leather (washable).

Cutting:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabrics . Lay the fabric right side up. Place the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can place the back piece on the fold. The pattern pieces should all be laid with the writing facing up. Always align the thread take-up arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm long cut with scissors or chalk . Notch the seam allowance on the fold, as this is always the center . Markings define the positions of darts , pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or a pin . You will need fabric:

  • 1x back part in the fracture
  • 2x sleeves opposite
  • 1x waistband
  • 2x cuffs
  • 1x front right
  • 1x front left
  • 1x front center

Sewing instructions:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

To sew this sweater you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.

Be sure to use a jersey needle and a stretch stitch. This means that if you're using a home sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or a three-part stretch stitch. Then, finish all seam allowances with a zigzag stitch or another similar stitch to prevent fraying. The colored lines in the images show you, in addition to the description, where a seam needs to be sewn or glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!

Start your sewing with all the cuffs. Sew them together, right sides together, press the seam allowances open, and press the folds to the right side.

To further secure both layers of fabric together, we sewed a stitching seam the width of a quilting foot all around. Now take the right and middle front pieces and sew the first dividing seam, right sides together. Neaten the seam allowances together and then press them down.

The seam is then stitched flat close to the edge.

Here you can see a detailed view of the flat-stitched seam.

Place the left front piece, right sides together, on the previously prepared front piece. Stitch the two pieces together, neaten the seam allowances, and then press them down.

Here, too, you stitch the flat-ironed seam allowance flat, close to the edge.

Here you can see a detailed photo where both flat quiltings meet, with a change in the color of the yarn.

Now place your front piece, right sides together, on the back piece and close both side seams. Pay attention to the seam allowances in the pattern. Then neaten the seam allowances together and press them to the back.

Sew the shoulder seams together. Neaten the seam allowances together and press them to the back.

Now let's move on to the sleeves. Place them right sides together and sew them together. Neaten the seam allowances and press them back.

The prepared sleeve cuff can now be stretched to the sleeve hem, right sides together. Neaten the seam allowances together and press them upwards.

Sew the finished sleeves, right sides together, into the correct armhole. Pay attention to the markings on the pattern.

Place the neckband, right sides together, into the neckline and stretch it slightly while sewing. Neaten the seam allowances together and then iron them down.

Stitch the seam flat and close to the edge.

Sew the prepared cuff for the hem to the torso, right sides together, and neaten the seam allowances together.
