Share
Level : Intermediate - for experienced players
Rock Cape Town was sewn in this tutorial from a softly draping viscose print.
Materials needed:
We recommend viscose, cotton, silk, lightweight denim, Tencel
| Sizes 34-42 | Outer fabric | 1.80 m | 140 cm wide |
| Sizes 40-50 | Outer fabric | 1.90 m | 140 cm wide |
| all sizes | concealed zipper | 22cm | |
| insert | 0.10m | 90 cm wide | |
| Elastic band 4cm wide | 70-108cm |
Cut:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as indicated by the marking notches!
Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric and interfacing. Place the fabric right side up. Align the selvedges parallel to the center so you can lay out the back piece, collar stand, undercollar, and upper collar on the fold. All pattern pieces should be laid with the printed side facing up. Always align the grainline arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm snip with scissors or using chalk, and mark the ends of the darts. Snip the seam allowance on the fold, as this is always the center point. Markings define the positions of dart ends, pocket positions, and more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins. It's best to roughly cut out all outer fabric pieces that will be fully interfaced first. After you've secured the interfacing, cut them out precisely. There's also a video here about gluing and securing pattern pieces.

You will need the following fabric:
- 1x left front part
- 1x right front part
- 1x bundle in the break
- 2x back piece, mirror image
- 4x pocket bags, opposite each other
Sewing instructions:

To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch of your sewing machine to finish the cut edges.
The colored lines in the pictures show you, in addition to the description, where to sew a seam or glue something.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1 cm wide!
Have fun sewing!

If your fabric is very soft, I would fix the slit with a 2cm wide strip of interfacing.

You start by finishing the cut edges: side seams, the side seam of the pocket bags and the dividing seams up to the beginning of the slit.

Next, iron the slit inwards by 1cm twice.

Now you can close the front seam up to the slit and iron it open. Half the skirt is already finished :)

Stitch a 1cm wide border around the slit.

Tip: If your fabric is very soft, secure the center back seam in the zipper area with a 2cm wide strip of interfacing.
Close the back center seam from the hem to the zipper notch.

Next, we'll make the pocket bags. Sew the pocket bag to the front piece, right sides together, from notch to notch.

Stitch the pocket bag close to the edge.

Now you can sew the pocket bags to the back piece, right sides together, from notch to notch.

Sew the side seam from the waist to the upper pocket notch, and then from the lower pocket notch to the hem. Press the seam open.

Now close the pocket bag and then overlock the curved edge. You can secure the pocket bag at the top edge with a basting stitch.

Next up is the federal government.
Fold it in half lengthwise and iron it flat.

Stitch along the inner waistband edge with a 1cm seam allowance. This is a guide stitch that allows you to press the 1cm seam allowance evenly.
This is what the prepared bundle looks like.

Sew the waistband to the waist seam of your skirt, right sides together, all the way around, and then press the seam allowance towards the waistband. Topstitch the elastic to the waistband at the center back. The elastic should be centered between the waistband seam and the waistband fold.

Next, you need to attach the appropriate zipper foot to your machine. There are several types of zipper feet; this is one of them.

The seam ripper is then inserted in the back center up to the top edge of the waistband.

Fold the waistband outwards, right sides together, and stitch down the back center of the waistband.

Make sure the pre-pressed seam allowance is facing upwards. Trim the seam allowance at the upper waistband edge with a diagonal cut.

Turn the waistband seam right side out. Pin the waistband edge to your skirt.
The rubber part must not be included in the process.

Topstitch the waistband close to the edge from the right side, catching the inner waistband in the stitching. Be careful not to stitch the elastic in place, otherwise it won't be able to move freely inside the casing later.
