The Baiba shirt is uncomplicated and quick to sew. It is ideal for combining different fabric remnants with each other. Mix jersey and woven fabric according to your mood and your wardrobe will be happy about individual and combinable tops. The oversized sleeves and the wide, round neckline make the shirt casual and super comfortable.
Length at center back = 60-62 cm
In these instructions, Baiba was sewn from a light viscose and jersey.
Required material:
We recommend an elastic jersey and a viscose or silk.
Sizes 34-50
- Outer fabric 0.80 m (140 cm wide)
- Jersey 0.80 m (140 cm wide)
- Elastic 0.40 m (0.7 cm wide)
cutting:
Cut out the pattern pieces from your fabrics . Lay the fabric right side up. Lay the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can lay the front and back pieces in the fold. The pattern pieces should all be face up. Always align the thread up arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvage of the fabric. Transfer all the notches from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk. Pinch the seam allowance in the fold of the fabric because this is always a center.
You need from Webware:
- 1x front part in break
- 1x back part in break
You need from Jersey:
- 2x side part in opposite directions
- 2x sleeve cuffs in opposite directions
- 1x neck strip
Sewing instructions:
To sew this shirt you need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, alternatively you can use the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to finish the raw edges.
In any case, use a jersey needle and use a stretch stitch to sew on the sleeve cuffs, i.e. if you sew with a household machine, you should use a zigzag stitch or the three-part elastic stitch and then all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or overcast with another matching stitch to prevent fraying. A normal stitch is sufficient for all other seams.
In addition to the description, the colored lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn. When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specially marked are 1 cm wide!
Happy sewing!
Start by sewing the side pieces to the back piece, right sides together, overcast the seam allowances and iron them to the back.
Next, sew the front piece to the side pieces, right sides together. The seam allowances are neatened together and ironed to the side. The shirt is now closed round.
The shoulder seams are sewn together right sides together. Neaten the seam allowances together and iron them to the back.
Now we come to the processing of the sleeve cuffs. First, sew the cuff together on the short side, right sides together, and iron open the seam allowances. The cuff is ironed left to left in the break in half.
Now pin the sleeve cuffs right sides together in the shirt and make sure it sits correctly with the help of the snaps in the cut.
Sew in the sleeve cuffs with an elastic seam, neaten the seam allowances and iron them up into the torso.
Take the neck strip, close it right sides together to form a round and press open the seam allowances. Next, iron the stripe together, wrong sides together, and pin it in the neckline using the snaps. The seam allowances are neatened back together and ironed down into the shirt.
Finally, we process the hem: To do this, fold it in 2x 1cm and stitch it down at 0.9cm. Leave a gap (approx. 1cm) between the back part and the side parts so that you can later pull in the elastic.
You can pull the elastic through the hem in the back part with the help of a small safety pin.
Pin the end of the elastic at the seam allowance. Now you can gather the back part and fasten the other end to the seam allowances of the back part/side part. Just close the small gaps in the hem and you're done.
