NÄHANLEITUNG T-SHIRT “KÄTHE”

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS T-SHIRT “KÄTHE”

Käthe is a casual summer shirt that is ideal for patching different fabrics. The flared hem gives the shirt the A-silhouette and the dividing seams ensure a good fit.

Length at center back = 66 – 72 cm

→ To the pattern “Käthe”

In these instructions, Käthe was sewn from a patterned and a plain jersey.

Required material:

We recommend a flowing and elastic jersey.

Size 34-42 jersey 1.30 m 140cm wide
Size 44-50 jersey 1.50 m 140cm wide

Cutting:

Cut the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up. Place the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can place the front piece on the fold. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clippings from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk. Clip the seam allowance in the fabric fold because this is always a center. Markings define positions of dart ends, pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.

What you need from fabric:

  • 1x front part in the break
  • 2x back pieces opposite
  • 2x side panels in opposite directions
  • 2x pass opposite
  • 2x sleeves in opposite directions
  • 1x neck hole strip

Sewing instructions:

To sew this t-shirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.

Be sure to use a jersey needle and use a stretchy stitch, i.e. if you are sewing with a household sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or the three-part elastic stitch and then all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or another appropriate stitch Neaten so they don't fray. In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!

Sew the side pieces to the front piece and neaten the seam allowances.

Sew the back pieces together at the center back and finish the seam allowances. Now you can sew the back side pieces to the back piece and neaten the seam allowances together.

Now sew the yoke to the back piece using the clips (double clips in the back) and neaten the seam allowances together.

Next comes the yoke on the front piece; here too, neaten up the seam allowances.

Before you close the sleeve seam, you can neaten the hem and iron it 1.5cm wide. This makes processing easier for you.

To close the sleeve seam, unfold the ironed hem again. Then neaten the seam allowances together again. The sleeve is sewn into the corresponding armhole using the clips and the seam allowances are neatened back together.

Now stitch the sleeve hem at 1.2cm.

The hem of the T-shirt is also neatened, ironed 1.5cm and stitched through at 1.2cm.

Close the neck hole strip into a round and place it lengthwise in the fold. The right side is outside. Using the clips, sew the neck hole strip onto the neck hole, right sides together. The seam from the strip sits on the shoulder clip. Finally, neaten up the seam allowance and iron it into the body, then stitch the edge onto the body.
